Kadayawan 2013 Schedule of Events revealed!

Kadayawan Festival 2013 is fast approaching and the events for the almost month long celebration of the biggest festival in Mindanao will start on August 1!

Take note that the street dancing “Indak Indak sa Kadalanan” will be on August 17 and the famous floral float parade “Pamulak Kadayawan” is the next day August 18 is the highlight of the festival

Kadayawan kicks off with the biggest “The Bounty Basket” in the country!

Bountiful Kadayawan! Tropical fruits in season overflow from the largest fruit basket in the Philippines during the official launching of the king of all festivals, the Kadayawan Festival, held at the grand lawn of the Davao People’s Park.

The Bounty Basket is said to be the biggest in the country so far, which needed three trucks and six multicabs of fruits and vegetables.

Comprising the fruits inside the gigantic basket were five varieties of coconut, six varieties of bananas, three varieties of “rambutan,” two varieties of avocado, three varieties of pineapples, two varieties of “santol”, mangosteen, mangoes and jackfruits.

Some vegetables are also included in the basket such as squash and eggplants.

The Bounty Basket measures six feet in height and sixteen feet in diameter.

The unveiling of Bounty Basket symbolized Davao City’s rich harvest.

Spectators shared the bounty to everyone’s great delight. Madayaw!

Sarah Geronimo, Paulo Avelino and “Princess and I” cast in Abreeza Mall this Kadayawan!

Kapamilya Stars led by Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo, the cast of Princess and I, Paulo Avelino and ASAP 2012 is scheduled to grace the Kadayawan Festival being brought to you by Abreeza Mall of Davao!

The Dates and schedule of the Kapamilya stars in Abreeza Mall’s activity center:

  • August 12 – Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo and Khalil Ramos
  • August 17 – Sarah Geronimo
  • August 18 – ASAP 2012
  • August 19 – Paulo Avelino

2012 Kadayawan Festival set on on August 17-19!

Just for clarification, this years Kadayawan Festival will be on August 17 -19 and not August 24 -26 as earlier announced!

In the declaration of Kadayawan, it has been stipulated that it will be held every third week of August.

The Kadayawan Festival is the most anticipated event in Davao City. Many balikbayans time their visits during this season while both local and foreign tourists pour in for the festival as well.

 

Davao City Mayor issues order creating city festival committee!

SEEING the primary importance of tourism as one of the backbones of the city’s economy, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio created the Davao City Festival Management Committee through Executive Order No. 03 series of 2012.

Duterte said tourism has been deemed to generate revenue for the local government and has provided livelihood to a number of Dabawenyos.

“The Festival Management Committee has been created to harmonize all the festivals celebrated by the City of Davao, fully maximize its objectives and properly realize the plans for each event,” Duterte said.

Davao City’s identity has been showcased through the celebration of its various festivities such as the Araw ng Dabaw, a commemoration of the city’s founding anniversary; the newly-created Davao Summerfest, which promotes sports tourism in the city; the highly acclaimed Kadayawan Festival, which features the ten tribes of Davao City and the city’s flora and fauna and the Pasko Fiesta, which gives prominence to the Dabawenyo way of celebrating Christmas in the midst of the different beliefs and traditions of the people of Davao City.

In addition to the said events, Davao City has been chosen to host the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (Mice) in 2013. Hosting Mice in next year has been considered as a tourism milestone and valuable achievement in the tourism industry of Davao City.

The committee, which will be chaired by the mayor herself, will also include City Administrator Zuleika Lopez as vice chair and Gene Bangayan of Duaw Dabaw Festival Foundation as co-vice chair.

Included in its functions would be the planning and ensuring the smooth coordination of all of the activities of the four major festivals of the city and encourage greater private sector participation during the said events.

According to the order, the roles and responsibilities in ensuring the successful implementation of the major events to be celebrated this year have been defined and will be specifically assigned to the committee member accountable.
