Davao City Council approves liquor ban from 1 a.m. – 8 a.m. that ends night life in the city!

THE 17th City Council of Davao approved on third and final reading Wednesday, July 24, 2013 the amended liquor ban regulating the operation of business establishments selling liquor and other alcoholic beverages in the city to an earlier time.

It was Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who requested the City Council to move the city’s liquor ban earlier from 2 a.m. to 1 a.m.

The committee hearing for the amended liquor ban was completed in less than 10 days after the proponent was presented to the body for the first reading last week, the second reading was approved last Tuesday and passed on the third and final reading during the special session the next day.

The measure not only prohibits the serving and selling of liquor, but also the drinking of intoxicating beverages along city streets, parking areas, plazas and uninhabited places from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m.

The City Council also amended the penalties against violators of the amended liquor ban.

The first offense calls for administrative fine of P3,000 while the second offense calls for a fine of P5,000 and an imprisonment of three months or both upon the discretion of the court.

A fine of P5,000 or one year imprisonment will be slapped against violator for the third offense aside from revocation of business permit.

As a Dabawenyo, I think this new amended liquor ban is not necessary and it will surely end the night life and the establishments selling liquors like bars and clubs to close shop in the coming days!

Toutrist will shorten their stay in the city for there is no where to go after midnight!
